It's a very heart-warming story and I love it. It's really fun and it's actually long enough that I won't finish it in a day. I've played all 3 characters and my favorite is Amber (the blond). It's so much fun. I reccomend this to EVERYONE. It took 3 days.
She is just amazing. I LOVE this game. I'm 11 years old and I ADORE this game. I love the characters, I love the music, I love the costumes, and I LOVE the skating.
Overall I would only buy this game for patient people. SHe got very frustrated and couldn't move on because her score wasn't high enough. I got this for my 11 year old daughter and she had lots of fun with it except when she got to the "State Competition". It's cute but the graphics really need to be worked on. This game is really fun at first, though the story line is long and there's lots of pointless dialogue. The romance is a bit weird and the fans are really creepy. She's been playing over and over again and is very annoyed with the game.
For the first figure skating game that i've found, it has good potential to build on. You also don't have a freezone to practice manuevers and thus some can be tricky during competitions with only one run through to master say a jump combination, something you don't practice. How to manuever the jumps and make it interactive with some sort of skill or ability on the player. You end up "skating" very little while fulfilling the requirements of your coach. I just wish there was more of it. I thought what better way for a skater to strenthen their performances than to practice skating but apparently I don't understand the appeal of the mini-game. The developers have designed an interesting tool of tracing patterns, once for each revolution, in order to complete jumps and various other stylus manuevers for spins and footwork. Then, they felt the need to add a storyline and a very annoying series of mini-games to strengthen your skater.
The townsfolk become an annoying chore to talk to with bizarre romance things and other storylines that run without your control but you have to acknowlege the dialogue or you cannot advance. Perhaps, they'll do another one with more skating/more sport-oriented and less life-ish. I have always wondered how they would create a figure skating game. So i was very pleased with that. The skating is fun.
The game looks like a visual novel, and if you're into those you might like it for its anime looking characters. The gameplay is nice, but does tend to get more difficult as you progress through the game. All in all, it is a very fun game. Imagine: Figure Skater is a fun game for when you're bored and want to play something simple. But it gets addicting and you might not want to stop. There's a nice, simple story to it.
Also, the story-line is a bit cheesy. It is dumb becasue it won't let you do anything in your life but what is programed for you and the people talk too much. As a real figure skater, the jumps and especially spins are inaccurate. In fact, I looked up one of the songs on iTunes to purchase so I could use it in teh future for my program since I am a real skater. I can only bet younger gamers would use anger and force, maybe hitting the game, or, like myself just putting the game away and ignoring it. The cpstumes are generally pretty and elegant. When you fall on really hard elements people boo and then you have to start that level over again.
The people in your "life" make you have sore feelings and the only way to start the competion over is by turning the NDS completely off. The graphics have some room for improvement and the accessories for the girl are wild, ex. But then, when you reach a certain point, it isn't worth the money. So. bunny rabbit tail and devil horns and angel halo. It has kind of dull and annoying music but it's not unbearable. The expressions are silly, ex.
Although, the choices of music the skater can use for her programs are nice. It makes me frusterated because we, as skaters, want tpo play a game about our sport and it isn't realistic. it's fun, I must say. Ok, at first it is fun; skating with coach, talking to friends, and playing the fun mini games. when falling OOH., and before jumps and spins, Here We Go. When you reach a certain "level" as a skater, it gets frusterating and pointless.
